I started in Journey in 2003 (then called CYT) when I was ten-years-old, but I hated it. I was only there because my mom, Lori Ryan, was teaching. When I turned 12, something switched. I’ve always said it was because I found a friend group. I also had crushes on the boys in the program, which is definitely part of it… But more significantly, my dad switched his job which meant he was more available. He started serving on the tech committee. Suddenly, it became this thing my whole family did together! We participated for six years, including summers, and it was our thing.
When I turned 18, I started teaching classes for Journey. After three years, I headed to college, and then a giant mission trip. Once I came back home, I worked for Journey again for a few years; directing, teaching and working in the office. I even met my husband through Journey. I took a break to have three kids, and now I am back again, directing a show. My oldest son is almost old enough to join.

The confidence this program built in me, and the safety in this community has been life-changing. I am who I am today because of this company. I have always been able to come back home here. It has been my safe place. In sharing all of this, parents, I want to encourage you that what you are doing here, supporting your student, is not for nothing. Your partnership with this show and your kid’s extracurricular activity is so unique. It was life-changing to me, so I am praying that it is the same for your family.
