Journey Summer Theater has become a favorite event in the community, and we are so excited to continue the tradition this year with our production of Guys and Dolls!
Set in Manhattan during the early 1950’s, Guys and Dolls tells two intersecting love stories. Local crapshooter, Nathan Detroit, struggles both to find a venue to hold his games, and in his 14 year relationship with his girlfriend, Miss Adelaide. At the Save-A-Soul Mission, Sarah Brown’s interest is piqued when cunning gambler, Sky Masterson, steals the heart of the devout missionary, on a bet from Nathan. Through iconic song and dance, a posse of crapshooters, Hotbox girls, and more, Guys and Dolls continues to stand the test of time, as a staple of the American musical.
“This show is heart-warming and romantic, and tells a good, old-fashioned story about how love can explode our expectations (even our expectations for ourselves). It is sure to delight audiences, and bring new and old patrons back for another great session of Journey Summer Theater!” -Stephen Pick, Executive Director.
With auditions open to the community, this 1950 Broadway classic offers plenty of great roles for teens and adults. Performances will run August 7th-16th. Stay tuned for more details, and audition dates!
Journey leadership is excited to be able to continue the summer show tradition with this high-energy, classic Broadway hit. While financial and staffing resources are not adequate this year to expand to 2 summer shows as we had hoped, this remains a goal for the future as we seek to serve the Journey community long-term through healthy, sustainable growth.
