2020 is upon us, and Journey Theater participants are in for a big, exciting year! Journey is ready to make an impact in the lives of hundreds of families across the Portland Metro area, and is so thankful for each and every one of those families! It will also be a year of changes. You were recently informed about Journey’s need for your assistance to help provide financial stability for the program, and many of you stepped up in a huge way! Within a month we were more than halfway toward the fundraising goal, and there is still the rest of the year to get there. Thank you!! You have been generous, but more importantly, you have invested in the lives of kids, telling them “I believe in you and I want to help you grow.”
Another big change coming this year is with Spring semester shows. It’s going to be a challenging and exciting spring for teens (13-18) and a wonderful opportunity for younger Journey actors (8-13) to have a chance to shine. There will be 3 shows open to teens of all areas, which will allow students from all over the Portland/Vancouver Metro area to come together as never before. We will be offering two, count them TWO non-musical productions(open to 8 – 12 year old students as well)! This will allow us to stretch our actors and give them an opportunity to try something they may never have tried before. This will also showcase some of our students who excel in acting and don’t want to focus on the musical aspects of theater. There will also be an all area teen musical filled with big production numbers and lots of dancing!
For younger students, Musical Performance classes will focus on singing, acting, and dancing, and will culminate in each class producing a full 30 minute musical showcase! This will provide numerous exciting opportunities for young actors to have the opportunity to shoulder more responsibility in larger roles.
Finally, Journey is thrilled to introduce this blog space, where you can read monthly articles about a number of interesting and informative topics, from the best dance shoes to how to nail your audition to how to transfer the skills you learn in Journey to the “real world” of theater. This blog will be a terrific resource for all Journey families, so be sure to check in often!
